Innovative Programs

HireEd
Using transcripts and student records in the hiring process, Career Preparation System of Shiawassee County kicked off this initiative to encourage county businesses to ask for transcripts/student records when hiring. Forty businesses have committed to this initiative and have been placed on the Shiawassee County Honor Roll. All eight school districts in the county have agreed to participate in this program. This initiative has been undertaken in conjunction with the National Alliance of Business' nationwide campaign.

Junior Achievement
Today, JA offers a complete kindergarten-12th grade curriculum which meets the State of Michigan's curricula benchmarks for social studies. JA's purpose is to educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, business, and economics to improve the quality of their lives. The Career Preparation System of Shiawassee County Coordinator serves as JA's part-time Education Manager to facilitate and grow JA activities in Shiawassee County. It is anticipated that the County will meet JA's national goal of serving 20% of all students by the year 2005. This equates to about 3,000 students, or 120 classrooms being served.
